Just for Fun: Unique Knits to Cast On Now

Just for Fun: Unique Knits to Cast On Now

Sometimes we all get stuck in a rut, making the same kinds of projects over and over… this month, we’re sharing some unique ideas for fun, out of the box, possibly even tiny and adorable projects to try knitting or crocheting.

Small projects made with lightweight yarn are perfect for late summer, when you’re not quite ready to be draped in something woolly and warm while you knit.

Do you have someone in your life who would adore a handknit dollhouse set– complete with family members and movable furniture? We love the Knitted Dollhouse by Sophia Minakais (available on the Brown Sheep website), containing a complete guide to all the pieces a little person could dream of playing with.  This kind of project would be cherished for years to come.

A knitter could even start by making the house and a few dolls — then add more furniture pieces and accessories over time – that way you’d never run out of gift inspiration!

Brighten your world with colorful yarn and the adorable knitted Rainbows of Hope by Rosie Posie Knits (available on Ravelry). The designer suggests hanging these on a friend’s door, sending them in the mail, or tucking them into a food drop-off for a loved one – what a sweet way to brighten someone’s day! Plus, part of the pattern proceeds go to an organization called Feeding America. These are knit with our Nature Spun sport.

Spending more time at home than usual? Freshen up your home decor with these cute knitted cacti, A Prickle of Cactus (available on Ravelry). Lamb’s Pride Worsted is a perfect yarn choice to give these little cacti a hint of texture. The pattern includes three different types of cacti – no watering required!

Sunflowers are blooming everywhere in Western Nebraska, so we love the Girasol Pillow (from Interweave Crochet) to celebrate the beauty of these flowers. This pattern is crocheted with Nature Spun worsted in the perfect sunflower colors. This pillow would add a bright and sunny accent to any room.

The holidays are still a ways off, but these Fair Isle Mini Sweaters (Ravelry) would be the perfect tiny projects to make now and save for future gifts! There is so much potential here for fun color combinations with Nature Spun fingering. Plus, you can brag to your friends that you finished knitting an entire sweater in an afternoon.

Finally, what’s not to love about a sweet and huggable felted bear? Lil’ Bear Hugs (Ravelry) would be cute in so many different colors of Nature Spun worsted— perfect for anyone who could use a warm hug.

We’d love to see what you’re making with Brown Sheep yarns – share yourphotos and stories with us on Facebook and Instagram!
