Holiday Crafting with Brown Sheep Yarns
The fall and winter seasons are a fabulous time to indulge in knit and crochet holiday crafting. Dressing up the house puts us in the spirit of the season, and it also allows us to use up those leftover bits of yarn from the sweaters, hats, scarves, cowls and mittens we’re making this season!
These are some of our favorite, quick knit and crochet home decor items to infuse the home with the holiday spirit. These projects are perfect for scraps of Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride, Harborside Aran, Prairie Spun DK, Nature Spun, Lanaloft, and Burly Spun.
Love to felt? We also have a blog of great felted holiday crafting projects!
Easy Yarn Ball Ornaments
First on our list: the Easy Yarn Ball Ornaments from Churchmouse Yarns and Tea. Made with Lamb’s Pride, these yarn ball ornaments are quick, easy and require no knitting or crochet skills! Gather your yarn scraps in festive colors and arrange these yarn balls as hanging ornaments, to decorate a wreath, or to create a wreath of just yarn balls!
Quick Holiday Mini Mitten Garland
Marly Bird’s free Crochet Mini Mitten Garland uses Nature Spun and is easy to work up, even if you’re a beginner crocheter. This is another great pattern for yarn scraps—each mitten uses less than 100 yards of yarn. If you have lots of smaller scraps, combine together to make striped and colorblock mini mittens!
Magical Forest Trees
We really love the details in these knit Magical Forest trees. Perfect for scraps of Lamb’s Pride Worsted, each tree features a cabled trunk and a smattering of beads that you don’t need to string while knitting—the beads are stitched on invisibly! Designer Lorna Pearman also created an option for a tree showcasing your favorite leftover buttons and beads. We love it!
Old Fashioned Christmas Lights
Rosie Posie Knit Co’s adorable Old Fashioned Christmas Lights look exactly like the vintage lights of our childhood. You only need approximately 10 yards of Nature Spun Sport for each individual light, so this is an incredible scrap buster pattern. We could see a whole line of these lights wound among real lights to add an extra burst of color and cheer to your holiday decorating!
Fa La Llama Ornament
Loophaven Loft’s Fa La Llama Ornament calls for just 20 yards of Nature Spun in Natural (brown, black, or grey would work as well), along with approximately 5 yards for the adorable scarf. A quick, cute ornament for the holidays, Fa La Llama also makes for a nice gift for loved ones this season!
Snowman Ornament
Originally crocheted with Brown Sheep Sport Weight—now called Top of the Lamb Sport—the Snowman Ornament is a sweet bauble. Make it as an ornament, a gift topper, or as decor for a homemade wreath. Gauge isn’t critical with this pattern, so feel free to substitute Harborside Aran, Lamb’s Pride, Nature Spun, Prairie Spun, or even Burly Spun.
Knit Wreaths
Ms. Ellaneous’s Knit Wreaths are the perfect holiday accents. They add such a sweet finish to gifts. And, you only need about 15 yards of Lamb’s Pride Worsted to make them. We love that you can turn them into garlands, or hang them individually on the tree as ornaments. When you include them as embellishment on a gift this season, it’s like you’re giving two gifts in one. It’s such a great, fast, and thoughtful holiday crafting idea!
Holiday Bottle Toppers
The Holiday Bottle Topper is another great idea for embellishing a gift bottle this holiday season. It’s also a fast knit, using just 14-18 scrap yards of Lamb’s Pride Bulky! Don’t forget to add a little loop of yarn so recipients can also use the hat as an ornament. Just look at how cute it is peeking out of a bag!
