Week-long Weaving Workshop at the Brown Sheep Fiber Arts Schoolhouse

Week-long Weaving Workshop at the Brown Sheep Fiber Arts Schoolhouse

We are very excited to announce our first week-long workshop at Brown Sheep Fiber Arts Schoolhouse. We hope this will be a wonderful opportunity for weavers to relax, learn, and be immersed in new techniques for an entire week in peaceful Western Nebraska.

Ilene Naegle of Ganado, Arizona is our highly talented instructor who will teach how to weave a Navajo-style rug from start to finish on an upright loom. Ilene teaches weaving at Dine’ College in Arizona; we are honored that she will travel all the way to Nebraska to share her time and talents.

As you may know, Brown Sheep Company has long-standing relationships with many of the trading posts in the Southwestern U.S. who carry our line of yarn called Top of the Lamb. In fact, Navajo weavers were the first major customers to discover Brown Sheep yarn in its earliest days. The colors and properties of Top of the Lamb have been customized to meet their preferences for tapestry weaving. This line of yarn, an integral part of Brown Sheep Company’s history, will be used in class for weaving.

This workshop will be an immersive experience for weavers of all skill levels. No previous experience is required – just determination and a positive attitude. Travelers to our area will find plenty of opportunities for accommodations at our nearby bed & breakfast or local hotels. Lunch will be provided each day. There should be some time left over after class to explore our beautiful scenery, bluffs, and wide open spaces.

Class is held in our schoolhouse just across from the mill, so there will also be opportunities for students to shop in our outlet store and see how our yarn is made.

Space is limited for this workshop so be sure to register soon. Keep an eye out for future workshops– we are excited to see what the future holds for our fiber arts schoolhouse and hope you will join us on the journey!
