Hats & Matching Sets

Sunflower Hat & Mittens

A bird's eye view of a young woman and a young girl wearing matching burgundy and yellow colorwork hats and mittens in a twisted stitch trellis design

The Sunflower Hat & Mittens look deceptively complex, but the colorwork is actually easy enough for beginners. Only one color is worked at a time, with the contrast color slipped to create the design. Available in both child and adult sizes, knitters only need 2 or fewer skeins of 2 colors of Prairie Spun DK to make this matching set! Download the pattern for free when you register for our newsletter here (or confirm your registration if you’re already signed up).

Mether

The Mether Hat uses just 1-2 skeins of Prairie Spun DK, depending on how deep you’d like your toque’s brim to be. Crocheted from the top down, this hat is easy to try on as you go for the perfect fit.

Animal Cracker Hat

Grab your Lamb’s Pride Bulky scraps! The Animal Cracker Hat calls for less than half a skein for the main color, and you’ll only need approximately 20-30 yards for each contrast color. Fun tassels use up even more scraps and tie the whole hat together. This is the kind of hat you can easily knit up in a few nights or less!

Scarves/Cowls

Ribbed Cowl

The free Ribbed Cowl is easy, fast, and infinitely wearable. Knit with 2 skeins of Lamb’s Pride Worsted in a basic 2×2 ribbing, this cowl is knit flat and then joined in the round, with the seamless part falling comfortably around the neck. This is the kind of staple winter accessory anyone will love wearing.

Berry Cozy Crochet Cowl

The free Berry Cozy Crochet Cowl is crocheted with a cluster stitch in two colors of super bulky weight Burly Spun, which means it’s extra warm, plush, and quick to make. The double fabric makes this cowl extra warm and also reversible—we love how the second color peeks through no matter which way you wear it.

Snippet Scarf

Called “the crazy quilt of scarves,” the free Snippet Scarf is another quick project that calls for scraps of Lamb’s Pride Bulky. Knit lengthwise, you’ll only need about 6 yards to work the full length in one color, and each color gets tied off at the end for a multicolor fringe. You could also double up Lamb’s Pride scraps or incorporate other worsted or bulky weight scraps if you have them!

Hands

Heart Strings

The free Heart Strings Mittens are crocheted with 1 skein of Lamb’s Pride and include two options for a floral or ribbed  cuff. Another quick, straightforward project, these mittens derive their name from the handy chain stitch connection that holds the mittens together.

Fingerless Eyelet Gloves

Would you believe the fetching Fingerless Eyelet Gloves only call for 80 yards of Lamb’s Pride Worsted? That means with just one skein of Lamb’s Pride, you can easily knit two pairs of fingerless gloves. Knit in the round in stockinette, a simple eyelet pattern at the wrist and both ends adds an elegant design flourish.

Mock Cable Winter Warmers

Grab a single skein of Burly Spun and knit the free Mock Cable Winter Warmers, a plush and warm pair of mittens that features a simple but striking mock cable in the cuff. The mock cable is just a 5-stitch repeat, easily memorized, which means you can also cast on a cowl if you know your preferred cowl size. We recommend measuring a cowl you love, then just multiply that measurement by 5 to know how many stitches to cast on.

Sailor Slippers

As lovers of natural yarns, we absolutely adore any felted wool project. The new Sailor Slippers have been in the Hot Right Now list on Ravelry for weeks—no surprise there! These quick slippers call for a super bulky yarn like Burly Spun in approximately 255 – 388 yards, depending on your size. We love these for handmade gifts, because who wouldn’t love a warm, woolly slipper that molds to your foot?

One, Two, Three Slippers

knit ankle socks

These slippers are aptly named. The One, Two, Three Slippers are knit in ONE piece, in TWO colors, and available in THREE sizes. You’ll only need a single skein of Lamb’s Pride Worsted to make any of the sizes, and they can easily be knit up in a weekend!

Home & Tiny Gifts

Mug Cozies

Vogue Knitting calls these Mug Cozies the perfect stocking stuffers, and we have to agree. Knit with small amounts of various colors of Nature Spun Fingering, they should knit up fairly quickly despite using a smaller gauge yarn. Your friends and family will definitely appreciate the thoughtfulness in these personalized handmade gifts!

Diagonally Christmas Trees

Grab your worsted weight scraps (Lamb’s Pride, Nature Spun, Lanaloft) and whip up the adorable Diagonally Christmas Tree Ornaments. These would make great handmade gifts for holiday hosts, strung together in a garland, or as an accent on a wrapped present.
